Commemorating the 400th Anniversary of the Imperial Visit to Nijojo-Castle, the Shogun’s Castle

Sen-oku Hakukokan Museum · Special Exhibition Gallery · Kyoto · –

Four hundred years after Emperor Go-Mizunoo’s visit to Nijō Castle in September 1626, at the invitation of the retired shogun Tokugawa Hidetada and the shogun Iemitsu. Centred on the museum’s folding screens of the imperial procession (a Kyoto City Designated Cultural Property), the exhibition follows Kan’ei culture from Tōfukumon’in (Tokugawa Masako), the shogun’s daughter who became the emperor’s consort, through figures such as Go-Mizunoo, Kobori Enshū, and Nonomura Ninsei.
