Bronze Gallery: Ancient Chinese bronzes — Feature exhibition on inscription

Sen-oku Hakukokan Museum · Bronze Gallery, Room 3 · Kyoto · –

Shang and Zhou bronzes sometimes carry inscriptions cast into them, known as jinwen: early forms of today’s Chinese characters. This autumn’s feature display in the Bronze Gallery explores them through the Sumitomo Collection, with inscribed vessels such as the Lu gui, the Yanhou Zhi ding, and the Jing you, alongside the tiger-shaped Hu you and the owl-shaped zun.
