Reflections in Jewellery: Memory and Identity

The National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto · 3F Special Exhibition Galleries · Kyoto · –

Taking postwar Japan as its viewpoint, the exhibition re-examines what jewellery can express, from the founding of the Japan Jewellery Designers Association (JJDA) in 1964 and the “contemporary jewellery” introduced from the late 1970s to artists working today. About 350 pieces include a large showing from the Hiko Mizuno College of Jewelry collection and masterworks coming to Japan from Germany for the first time in about 50 years; more than 70 artists are planned, among them Hiramatsu Yasuki, Otto Künzli, and Ted Noten. It then tours to the Iwami Art Museum and the Yamanashi Prefectural Museum of Art.
