Myths and Monsters: The Art of Fantasy in Asia

M+ · West Gallery, L2 · Hong Kong · –

The first major survey of how artists in Asia have used fantasy to respond to their times, from the 19th century to today. More than 400 works in four sections move from pre-modern traditions such as ukiyo-e prints, Chinese shadow puppets and Tibetan Buddhist thangkas, through Surrealism in Asia and post-war manga and anime from Godzilla to Ghost in the Shell, to contemporary art, design, architecture and games that respond to anime aesthetics.
