Roy Lichtenstein: Like New
Whitney Museum of American Art · New York · –
The first major New York survey of Roy Lichtenstein (1923–1997) since 1993, with about 130 works from the early 1940s to the 1990s, including iconic paintings, lesser-known works and re-created murals. It traces how his early interest in perception and visual recognition shaped a career-long investigation into duplication, simulation and image culture. Look Mickey (1961), Drowning Girl (1963) and a nearly 96-foot re-creation of the Greene Street Mural are on view, and all the works from his 1962 Leo Castelli Gallery exhibition are reunited for the first time.
