KAN'EI: Culture Flourishing in an Era of Peace

The Museum of Kyoto · 4F and 3F Galleries · Kyoto · –

Four hundred years after the Kan'ei imperial visit of 1626, when retired shogun Tokugawa Hidetada and shogun Iemitsu received Emperor Go-Mizunoo at Nijō Castle, the exhibition explores the culture of that era of peace, from Kanō Sanraku's Pine and Hawk at Nijō Castle (second period) to Hon'ami Kōetsu's lacquer sutra box (first period) and black Raku bowl Murakumo (full run). The Important Cultural Property sword Honebami Tōshirō is on view only through October 2.
