Shohaku Museum of Art
Gakuen-mae · Nara
Address: 2-1-4 Tomigaoka, Nara 631-0004
Opened in March 1994 with works given by the painters Uemura Shōkō and Uemura Atsushi and an endowment from Kintetsu. It collects and shows the paintings, drafts and sketches of three generations of the Uemura family: Uemura Shōen, her son Shōkō and his son Atsushi, and holds planning exhibitions and lectures on Nihonga. It stands on the former estate of Kintetsu's honorary chairman Saeki Isamu, whose garden holds more than a hundred pines; the “shō” (pine) of its name comes from Shōen, Shōkō and those trees. About five minutes by bus from the north exit of Kintetsu Gakuen-mae Station to Ōbuchibashi (Shōhaku Bijutsukan-mae).
