Address: 601 Okuyama, Asuka-mura, Takaichi-gun, Nara 634-0102

Opened in 1975 as the exhibition facility of the Nara National Research Institute for Cultural Properties (Nabunken), the museum tells the history of Asuka, the political and cultural centre of the early Japanese state from Empress Suiko's enthronement in 592 to the move to the Fujiwara capital in 694. Its building, opened in March 1975, was designed by Taniguchi Yoshirō. The permanent galleries are built around Nabunken's excavations, the garden displays a range of Asuka's carved stones, and four exhibitions are held a year. About five minutes' walk from the Asuka Okuyama / Asuka Shiryōkan Nishi stop of the Akakame loop bus from Kintetsu Kashiharajingū-mae or Asuka Station.
